About Ava Rivers
In October 2023, I witnessed just how far our own government–no matter who is in power–is willing to go to lie to us about what we see with our own eyes. Israel was attacking Palestine, and despite the people’s cries to end the genocide, the White House did nothing.
It was this experience, watching as genocide unfolded and continued, that prompted me to think about how I could use my writing to bring greater awareness, transformation, and social justice to the world.
Stories are powerful. They have the ability to shape and shift how we think, and they often make it easier to talk about real issues with each other. Several stories have shaped my personal growth journey, and now I’m committed to creating and sharing stories that might shape yours.
My Current Projects
Project Propaganda
An allegory about what the Israeli government and its military are doing to Palestinians. This novel occurs in a fantasy realm with paranormal creatures like vampires and lycans. Project Propaganda (working title) highlights how prevalent propaganda is and how humans will believe anything they’re told if it’s told to them often enough, loud enough, and with enough authority.
Inside the Cookie Jar
This novel is an allegory about the Republican Party—how they want small government, but then reach their hands into the personal lives of families and control their medical decisions. Inside the Cookie Jar (working title) is inspired by my rage at recent legislation changes in North Carolina. Above all, it explores the inhumane ways humans treat other humans, and how we can do better.
Unraveling the Virtue Laws
This time-travel novel explores what might have happened if the Republican Party hadn’t come to power in 2016. In Unraveling the Virtue Laws, the main character goes to the past to undo all that’s “gone wrong.” Along the way, she discovers why The Virtue Laws were created and just how deep their impact goes. Does she have the tools to unravel them & change the future?
